simpler times
We’ve covered earth with patchwork pavement
and marked our landscape with buildings and
cement poles holding billboards advertising
the next big thing to spend our bank accounts on
maybe the cavemen had something going
living off the land and in rocks carved=
with pictures instead of words because
paper comes from the forests we now
build our homes on
we are trying to live our lives
in a world we’re crowding ourselves out of
polluting our oxygen with technology
and deadlines and expectations
of our dreams and ambitions
pushing people aside
and animals to extinction
draining our brains with pixelations
of red, blue, and green
spending millions on entertainment
instead of books
using metal boxes to roam the horizon
where the sun touches
these simpler times of yesterday
decay into chaos and tragedy
